275 W. Main Street
In 1882, William D. Gross’s shoe and hat shop was purchased by Daniel Wartzenluft (first with Lewis A. Stein, then later W. W. Sharadin). Wartzenluft later dissolved the partnership and ran the shoe store with his wife Susan’s help until 1933, when E. F. Sterner bought it for his jewelry store. It has since been the home to several insurance companies and, since 2003, Paisley & Co. Bath Boutique and Fragrance Bar.

18/20 N. Whiteoak Street
Built in 1916 for A&P Grocery, the southern half (18 N. Whiteoak) of the building has been home to Paul A Geist’s appliance store, Kelchner’s Cleaners, Marlow R. Graff’s Towne Vision Center, and Collene’s Crafts & Flowers.
The northern half of the building (20 N. Whiteoak) spent the first half of the 1900s as a seafood market. Later, it became a beauty salon under various owners, most recently Main Street West Hair & Nail Salon. The middle bay was originally a garage, used by Reuben Ringler in the 1940s to store his fish truck. Directly upstairs was the Franklin Club, a popular Depression-era “gentlemen’s only” lounge.
